Tatiana Paleeva and the East Meets West Gallery are pleased to announce the opening of “The Path of Life”, an exhibition of Lily Balasanova and Ekaterina Kudryavtseva, as part of the Art Fair “Artesania” in the New Manege exhibition hall.
Contemplation over life’s paths and our own role in choosing our fate has always been a cornerstone theme for those artists looking to break formalistic boundaries.
For Ekaterina Kudryavtseva the Path of Life entails enjoyment of every moment – moments that may not be important from a historical perspective, but are precious to each individual as part of their life, their experience, their history.
Lily Balasanova’s works are light and airy collages that unify opposites, an imaginative missive about feelings, thoughts and reflections, an attempt to shed the banalities of existence and achieve harmony with herself and Nature.
The choice of medium reflects these essentials: Ekaterina Kudryavtseva’s traditional and relaxed spirit sits well with oil and pastels, while Lily Balasanova’s anxious and restless moods are expressed in the diverse, even clashing materials put into each piece. The combination of canvases, handmade papers and even organza (notoriously difficult to work with) creates a unique range of textures and volumes. Hand painted silk shreds, cords, jute and linen ropes are knotted together on one canvas, and images are intentionally placed together as if stitched by hand in an antique needlework quilt. The result is a multifaceted work filled with elusive images from different cultural traditions.
You are warmly invited to the exhibition opening on Saturday, September 22, from 14:00 to 18:00 at Hall 2, booth B-3 at the New Manege exhibition hall at 3/3 Georgiyevsky Per.
