Between Heaven and Earth. Part II

VMDPNI / 11.09 – 10.10.2019

The East Meets West Gallery will open a special art-project to its 20th anniversary dedicated “Between Heaven and Earth” (Part II) at the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Art from September 11 to October 10, 2019. The project consists of three parts; each will be set up as an independent exhibition.

Men’s kimono. XIX century . The Edo period. Private collection of Tatiana Paleeva. Hemp, hand weaving, screen printing

Alexander Yulikov. Man, 2013. Oil on canvas, 70×55

The first part is a tribute to ethnic interests of the East Meets West Gallery, which can be trace back to its foundation in 1999. The second part features a group exhibition of the Gallery’s permanent artists. The third part is a special sculpture and object’s exhibition created at the very entrance hall of the historical part of the Museum.

Layers of the art-project “Between Heaven and Earth” are multiple and complex: one appeals to the ancient fundamental cultures of China and Japan, another explores contemporary work of European and Russian Art in coexistence with the “historicisms” of the East, which gave birth to the universal philosophical concept about Man on Earth and Human in the Universe.
