«Black and White»

East Meets West Gallery is pleased to present a joint exhibition of Alexey Lantsev and Suren Aivazyan «Black and White» as part of The Graphic Arts’ Annual Fair «ChudGraph» held at the New Manege Exhibition hall.

«Snow Story» by Suren Ayvazian was created this winter in Moscow. Studying the whiteness of snow, the author sees shades that run from pink to black. When it is overcast and the sun is shaded by the clouds, white goes to black and blue. When the sun shines through the clouds, everything around turns black. Light creeps into gaps between the branches, into the free space between the dense clouds and penetrates into the slits of half-closed eyes.

Alexey Lantsev, as well, explores the interaction between achromatic colors mainly in his favorite genre of abstract expressionism. The choice of colors was motivated by impressions from the artist’s stay in Northern Ossetia in 2010 during the IV International Art Symposium «Alanica». Rocky harsh landscapes, mountain streams with clear pure water and the ancient traditions of the Ossetians inspired him to create acrylic abstractions on paper with the help of acrylic lacquer and different industrial pigments. Alexey explores the nuances and transitions of achromatic colors as if he were climbing the unknown rocky shores and mountains of Alanya.
